About the work
We find a wealth of women’s images in Kairiukštytė’s work, including corpulent, sensual nudes, energetic, matriarchal heralds parodying folk primitivism, theatrically erotic Greek mythical heroines, uninvited guests appearing in Christian-themed scenes, and real or imagined sacred portraits...The abundance of drawings and their rapid, passionate lines demonstrate that Kairiukštytė was virtually obsessed by certain images, desires and visions, and only by drawing them could she liberate or cure herself of them.
